Windows Server 2022 is now generally accessible to the public. It is the next on-premises version of Windows Server from Microsoft. Because this is a Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release, it will be supported for a period of ten years. It has a plethora of security, containerization, and administration options.
Microsoft began putting out Windows Server 2022 on August 18, 2021. According to Arpan Shah, general manager of Azure, Microsoft waited until today to announce the global release to guarantee that it was available across all distribution channels.
It uses multi-layer security with a Protected-core server and secured connection. Secured-core servers like secured-core PCs, feature hardware, firmware, and drivers that improve security.
In a blog post, Microsoft describes the benefits of this security setup:
‘’Secured connectivity in Windows Server 2022 adds another layer to security during transport. The new release adds faster and more secure encrypted hypertext transfer protocol secures (HTTPS) and industry-standard AES-256 encryption with support for server message block (SMB) protocol.’’
The most recent version of Windows Server can connect to Azure Arc, allowing businesses to leverage cloud services alongside on-premise Windows Server 2022.
It can accommodate up to 48TB of memory and 2,048 logical cores on 64 physical sockets. According to Microsoft, this is sufficient for handling demanding Tier 1 applications.
Microsoft emphasizes that, in addition to Windows Server 2022, Azure services and server advancements for Windows Server have been launched. For example, Azure Auto manages, which is now in preview, allow IT professionals to automate cloud practices while also utilizing the Microsoft cloud adoption framework. Customers can also use Azure to modernize existing apps.
It will be supported until October 13, 2026, with extended support continuing until October 14, 2031.
